Teaser Tuesday

This is a little teaser from Destiny Bewitched (out in a month!!!!). Only a few pages into the book, Geo and Samantha get to know each other.

“Where’s my sword?” she asked.

“Hidden, but secure.”

Forcing her voice to be strong though she trembled inside, she demanded, “Give it to me.”

The demon gave her a curious look – as if he was surprised by her courage. Job well done if she’d fooled him.

“So you can stick me with it like you did the werewolves? No thank you.”

She huffed though he had a point. “Why did you save me from them?”

“I just so happen to need a witch.”

Her gaze rested on the cauldron over the fire. “Am I the last ingredient for your demon stew?” Though her tone was sarcastic, her stomach churned at the thought.

He merely looked her over and answered, in a casual tone, “You would make terrible stew meat.”

Teaser Tuesday

“Tell me about the journey,” Samantha said, keeping pace beside him. “You said something about a desert?”

“Yes. We’ll have to cross the Marwolaeth Grim.”

“What does that mean?”

He hesitated before answering, “The grim death.”

Her eyes widened and she gulped. “Sounds charming. I can’t wait.”

“It’s better than the alternative. The forest is faster but teeming with demons and werewolves. The desert may be harsh but it’s safer.” Now probably wasn’t a good time to mention the desert beasts. Not as deadly as demons but still something to fear.

“Well, I’ve always dreamt of a sandy vacation. I was thinking more like Maui or Cancun, but, hey, the Grim Desert makes for a great postcard. Maybe I can pick up a souvenir T-shirt. I’m thinking” – she gestured across her breasts – “I survived the Desert of Death.”

He laughed out loud. Damn he liked her spirit.

Her face fell. “That’s if I survive.”

He couldn’t understand why but he had to touch her then. Snatching her hand in his, he gave it a squeeze. “You’ll survive, dove. I won’t let anything hurt you.”

She looked down at their hands intertwined. “Uh, thanks.” She pulled away, leaving his palm empty.

He tucked his hand in his pocket and cursed himself for soothing her. This was no time to get sentimental. “Right. Well, a dead witch is a useless witch.”

“Yeah, yeah,” she mumbled.

They walked in silence for a long time. He expected her to start prattling about insignificant topics any moment. One thing he remembered about women – they rarely stayed silent. But Samantha seemed content in it. Each time he looked at her, she appeared lost in thought, her forehead crinkled as she peered around them. He found himself curious what she was thinking.

He shook his head. Don’t get too close. She was a means to an end, nothing more. He’d be leaving her in the hands of the vicious Underworld Games guard in just a few short days. Stay detached. Focus on getting home.

At the border of his property, the trees began to thin. The grass disappeared, giving way to rocks and sand. They stepped out of the trees and gazed upon the desert.

Samantha stood beside him. “Oh, this is gonna suck.”

Teaser Tuesday

Snippet from Destiny Unchained, to be released in December

The Silver Slayer was just as she’d remembered. Wickedly handsome, well-groomed, and dark. Oh, so, dark and dreamy. He didn’t wear a suit this time though he still managed to look upper class in his black ski jacket and dark wash jeans. Her mind struggled to wrap around the fact that this attractive man had the potential for such evil.

The body of the teenager from the woods flashed in her mind. Not just that girl but countless others. Bodies piled up in her head. Missing children posters. Pain, fear, loss. Anger grew in the pit of her stomach. Her fists clenched and she stalked toward him. It was time to end this.

He nodded his head in greeting. “Huntress.” He stood at ease with his hands clasped behind his back. As if she was no more of a threat than a pesky bug.

“You’re here alone. Are you finally ready to finish this?”

A smile tugged at his lips. “Careful, vampire. Don’t get overconfident. I’m not like the puppy dogs you’ve fought before.”

“No, you’re worse. You’re a coward. A sick, twisted, coward of a puppy dog.”

“And now you insult me?” His smirk was mocking. “Not very smart.”

She snorted. “What are you going to do? Kill me harder?”

He smiled then peered around them. “Where’s your werewolf friend?”

“It’s just you and me.” A throwing knife flew from her boot and landed in her open palm. “Now, stop stalling and fight me, mother fucker.”

Hope you enjoyed!

Teaser Tuesday

Since I've been kinda lame, here's another excerpt from Destiny Unchained. This picks up from the previous post for 6 Sentence Sunday so start there if you haven't read it yet. Hope you enjoy it!

His eyes shifted rapidly as he studied her face. Her eyes, her lips, her neck, down to her breasts, back to her eyes again.

She could have killed him. Probably. Maybe. But she didn’t want to kill him, she wanted to calm him. In an ultimate act of trust, she yielded. Her body sagged underneath him, her pride stinging a bit. And, in the wolf way, she turned her head and bared her throat. Male satisfaction burned in his eyes before he leaned into her neck with his nose and inhaled.

His savage moan tickled her skin. Then his body contorted. It melted on top of hers, fur disappearing, and half its mass. In only seconds, a human took its place. A naked human.

She tried to pull her arms down but he gripped them harder. “Be still, Talia,” he said, his voice husky like gravel. “Don’t move.” His face warmed the crook of her neck. “I could hear your pain from miles away. Do you know what that does to a man?” She couldn’t speak, only lay there under his heaving body. “My Natalia, hurt and afraid.”

She opened her mouth to deny that last part, but he bit her chin.

Lifting his head, he stared down at her. Calmer, more human now, but still on edge. “Don’t argue, Talia, for once. Please. I have to taste you. Do not deny me this.”

It was a command, but his eyes asked for permission. She nodded.

Teaser Tuesday

I missed Six Sentence Sunday. Sorry. Was apple picking with the kids. Sidenote: September 10 is too early for apple picking.

So I'm making up for it with a Teaser Tuesday. Here's a short excerpt from Destiny Unchained (which I'm trying to move the release date to early December).

“I just want to be your friend.” He almost looked sad as he stepped closer and put out a hand. “No man is an island.”

She stared at his outstretched hand. “I’m not a man.”

“It’s a figure of speech. It means everyone needs friends. No one should spend a lifetime alone.”

“That’s the werewolf way. Not so for vampires.”

“You have covens.”

“Some.”

“Not you?”

“Not me.”

He grabbed her hand before she could dodge him and held it tight when she tried to pull away. His fingers slid up her bare arm. It tingled. She stared at the goose bumps it left behind.
“Don’t you miss being touched?” His breath whispered across her cheek. “Don’t you miss the gentle feel of skin on yours?” He bent his head, his goatee rubbed against her cheek.
She stopped breathing. He was so warm she could have melted into a puddle on the floor. Her eyes fluttered closed.

“A simple touch from a friend is like water to a drying lotus. It quenches its thirst, imparting fortitude to weather the storms.”

Her eyes flew open and she looked up at him. “That’s bullshit. Where’d you hear that?”

“One of the greatest bearers of wisdom in our day.” He bent down to her ear and after a dramatic pause, he whispered, “Chinese fortune cookie.”

Have a great week everyone!
